If you’ve switched electric companies in hopes of lower costs, but are seeing higher bills, we want to hear your story!
Thirty-six states and the District of Columbia have deregulated their electricity markets, allowing for so-called “retail choice.” If you live in a deregulated state, you may have received flyers in the mail, promotions on social media, email solicitations, door-to-door sales representatives and other tactics urging you to switch your energy providers with promises of lower electric bills.
Unfortunately, “retail choice” has resulted in higher electric bills for consumers, because the low rates offered by third-party suppliers are just a bait and switch tactic. Over time, the low rates go up and people pay more – not less – than if they had just stuck with the local electric company.
If you’ve switched electric companies in hopes of lower costs, but instead are seeing higher bills, then please fill out the form on this page. Attorneys General and state commissions are investigating claims of fraud and scams.
